LETTERS FROM WANKIE:a place in colonial Africa

RAVE REVIEWS for Patricia Friedberg's Latest Release...

Anne Collis, Artistic Director, National Symphony Orchestrs, UK
"Loved 'LETTERS FROM WANKIE'. Read it cover to cover in one day!....definitely a page turner, what a fascinating time she had...and what a trouper!"

Dorothy A, Arizona, US
"I read this book with great delight...what an interesting life and what a wealth of experience. Congratulations!  This book is great!"

Dave Bloom., Tel Aviv, Israel, Founder and Editor of the Zimbabwe Jewish Community website: www.zjc.org.il
LETTERS FROM WANKIE is a terrific read... I highly recommend...a well-written book.  Through her work as Clerk of the Court for the Native Commissioner, the author experiences and provides, with a matter-of-fact humour, a fascinating insight into the culture: a snapshot of life in a remote district of Rhodesia in the early 1950's."

Amy B., Patchoque, NY, US
"Witty and Wonderful!...a captivating, entertaining memoir of one woman's fascinating two-year adventure into a foreign world. It is sure to capture your heart; don't miss it."

Paul L., Jerusalem, Israel
"Delightfully told with light wry humour, and through letters, to give us a real feel of the place, and with the pathos of looking back now at a country destroyed, this is an excellent memoir."

Rafe B, Bradenton, Florida, US
"Friedberg makes a compelling case for the benevolent aspects of pre-independence Africa where there were heroic individuals who were able to make a difference ...LETTERS FROM WANKIE is a valuable insight into pre-independence east Africa and one woman's positive impact.."

Gillian E., Tierra Verde, Florida, US
"...the area came alive with the author's vivid descriptions and many challenges - a page turner, and a great follow-up to Friedberg's earlier book, 21 ALDGATE.

Leila D., London, England
"...a truly great read!  I loved and enjoyed every word of this wonderfully written, memoir, which I strongly recommend

E & C., Basel, Switzerland
"what a fascinating adventure...we read it together and so enjoyed the story and the style. It's a must read!"

Barbara Y., Bradenton, Florida, US
"I really enjoyed this book especially after reading and loving "21 ALDGATE" by Patricia Friedberg.
This story follows on with the life of the child in "21 ALDGATE" and her married life in an unusual setting.

James, A., Johannesburg, South Africa
"By chance I came across your latest book called "LETTERS FROM WANKIE"and, as I grew up in that town...resident from 1954-1969, I acquired your book and thoroughly enjoyed the read...brought back some good memories, albeit as a child my life was carefree...Thanks for writing your wonderful memories of Wankie."

B&C, M., Springfield, MA, US,  (formerly of Johannesburg, South Africa
"A brilliant read... I felt the author's voice as if she were in the room with me!  We loved it and laughed at the good humour.  Wonderfully written."

Praise for LETTERS FROM WANKIE... a place in colonial Africa

"A gorgeous, touching, tragic tale of a lost -- but now, thanks to Patricia Friedberg --never forgotten time in a remote corner of colonial Africa."
-Douglas Rogers, New York Times Journalist and author of THE  LAST RESORT: A Memoir of Zimbabwe

"What an adventure! I loved this book! I could not stop reading this honestly portrayed, exhilarating account of Patricia Friedberg's journey into the interior of Africa in the fifties.  Filled with humor and astute wry observations, this is a delightful trip into the past where a newly married and na├»ve British woman is taken by her new husband to live in an isolated mining town ....with the dubious name of Wankie...."
-Paul Williams, Ph.D., Author of SOLDIER BLUE

BRADENTON / PALMETTO BREAKFAST BOOK CLUB

Is it possible in the span of two days to meet with another group of knowledgeable,  interesting and international women who make up this outstanding Breakfast Book Club.? It is and they are indeed
a remarkable group of women.

Thank you, Karla Hager for suggesting 21 ALDGATE to your book club and for hosting the meeting at your beautiful home, and thanks to Betty Conard leader of the club for organizing the meeting.

Stimulating discussion followed Patricia's talk which centered around the impact of the war on Clara, (cited as a a true feminist); on the family, the east end, and on Victoria, the child. The issue of women spying for the allies who kept true the secrecy of their missions, brought out the intrigue of Clara's work at the Gallery which fronted for the French Resistance,  The international members of the book club drew on their personal experiences in London and other parts of the world during and after the War.  World War II is a subject that does not go away.

It was such a great pleasure to meet you and we look forward to meeting you again once Patricia Friedberg's "LETTERS FROM WANKIE" is released.

SAS BOOK CLUB

Many Thanks - you Gals have anything but  a SHORT ATTENTION SPAN.

What a delight it was to meet with this erudite group of women and to engage in stimulating conversation and lively discussion about "21 ALDGATE", the period in which the story is set, the
intriguing story, the characters - Clara, as a role model of feminist and the events leading up to the
the war; the 1930's and the literature and art that grew out of that period in history; and not in the least recognition of Patricia Friedberg's ability in her writing to keep readers intensely intrigued "unable to put the book down"... and this while being wined and dined.

We ask you to become a follower on our website and thank you for your reviews on www.amazon.com

Thank you Beth Karlin, for introducing the SAS Book Club to "21 ALDGATE".  We look forward to meeting you again when"Letters From Wankie" is released.

Thanks especially to Diane Briganti, if it hadn't been for our chance meeting at LaGuardia Airport in New York some months ago...this meeting and her club's book choice of 21 ALDGATE, might never have been.

ORT BOOK CLUB REVIEW

I wish to thank Patricia Friedberg for speaking at our
book club meeting. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed her
discussion of the origins of 21 ALDGATE.

Our sincere appreciation for her most interesting talk,
and her fabulous personality. Pat, not only made us laugh
but also made us aware of the highly political agendas
of the pre World War II era.

Very Sincerely,

Marcia Frankel
